11 Day Mosaic Workshop in Istanbul.
For many years Martin Cheek and Andrew Higgins have been running mosaic courses from Martin’s beautiful studio in Flint House in Broadstairs on the Kentish coast in the UK. By popular demand Martin and Andrew have been asked to run a mosaic course in Turkey. Istanbul seemed to ideal place to run this course, having fabulous classical mosaics and a rich Byzantine heritage.
The course is both a creative and relaxing holiday experience. Martin and Andrew will teach for 4 hours daily. There will be at least two informal demonstrations incorporating direct and indirect mosaics as well as presentations covering Martin’s personal mosaic work. There is a lot of opportunity for one to one tuition. Another great feature about this course is meeting your fellow course participants from all over the world,
Cost: 11 days, 10 nights mosaic course @ €2130.00 per person including accommodation
OR 11 days, 10 nights mosaic course @ €1130.00 per person NOT including accommodation.

This price is based on taking a single room with a view.
If you take a double with NO view then it is an extra 60 Euros
If you take a double with a view then it is an extra 175 Euros
If you share a twin with a view you save 225 Euros each
Please note that the airfare is not included as part of the course price.
The suggested flight from UK will be British Airways Flight 678 from London Heathrow to Istanbul – departing @ 07.10 and arriving @ 12.55. If we can all be on the same flight then it makes the pick up at the airport much easier for everyone. Please go to BA.com to book your flight. The cost is from £72 each way if you book early enough.

Day 1 – Thursday 10 November
07.10: Outward Flight BA678 to Istanbul IST airport.
13.30: Pick up from Istanbul IST airport.
14.00 Arrive at Ayasofya Konaklari Hotel. Allocation of rooms, settle in.
17.00 – 19.00: Setting up of studio space. Allocation of work stations.
Day 2 - Friday 11 November
9.00-13.00: Mosaic Workshop #1.
Martin will talk about and demonstrate cutting techniques for glass smalti.
14.00 – 19.00: In the afternoon you can continue to work (unassisted) or relax.
Day 3 - Saturday 12 November
9.00-13.00: Mosaic Workshop #2.
Martin will give a talk about how using various opus in your mosaics can help to create movement.
14.00 – 19.00: In the afternoon you can continue to work (unassisted) or relax.
Day 4 - Sunday 13 November
9.00-13.00: Trip to The Chora
13.00-14.00: lunch in Istanbul Old Town
In the afternoon it is suggested that you may like to visit the Grand Bazaar
Day 5 - Monday 14 November
9.00-13.00: Mosaic Workshop #3.
Martin will talk about colour and contrast in your mosaics.
14.00 – 19.00: In the afternoon you can continue to work (unassisted) or relax.
Day 6 - Tuesday 15 November
9.00-13.00: Mosaic Workshop #4.
14.00 – 19.00: In the afternoon you can continue to work (unassisted) or relax.
Day 7 - Wednesday 16 November
9.00-13.00: Trip to Hagia Sophia
13.00-14.00: lunch in Istanbul Old Town
14.00 – 16.00 Trip to The Great Palace mosaic Museum
Day 8 - Thursday 17 November
9.00-13.00: Mosaic Workshop #5.
14.00 – 19.00: In the afternoon you can continue to work (unassisted) or relax.
Day 9 - Friday 18 November
9.00-13.00: Mosaic Workshop #6.
14.00 – 19.00: In the afternoon you can continue to work (unassisted) or relax.
Day 10 - Saturday 19 November
9.00-13.00: Mosaic Workshop #7.
In the afternoon you can finish your mosaics and icons.
18.00: Exhibition of the produced mosaics and icons with drinks and nibbles.
Martin and Andrew will evaluate the week’s work.
Day 11 - Sunday 20 November
11.30: Pick up from hotel to Istanbul IST airport.
13.55 Return flight BA679 to London Heathrow arrives 16.05
