Sicily Leopards

Céfalu, Sicily 2018

with Martin Cheek and Andrew Higgins

11-Day Mosaic Masterclass & Tour

October 31 - November 10, 2018

Course Preview

As many of you will know, for many years Martin Cheek and Andrew Higgins have been organising a special annual Mosaic Masterclass and tour abroad. Previous years have included Sicily, Venice, Greece, Ravenna, and Istanbul.
This year, we have decided to return to Sicily, and the wonderful fishing port of Céfalu. We last made a tour here in 2010.

The venue for this year is the Museo Mandralisca, just along from the Piazza Duomo, with the imposing twelfth century cathedral with its wonderful mosaics.

The course, as always, is both a creative and relaxing holiday experience. Martin and Andrew will teach for 3½ hours daily. There is a lot of opportunity for one to one tuition. Another great feature about this course is meeting your fellow course participants from all over the world.

The hotel for our stay is the Hotel Riva del Sole. This is right on the seafront and a lovely 10 minute walk in the morning, along the front and through the twisting streets of Céfalu to the museum.

The Tour: We will also be arranging a tour of some of the greatest treasures of Sicily. We will be visiting the following sites:

Céfalu Cathedral, Céfalu
The Palatina Chapel, Palermo
The Church of a Martorana, Palermo
The Cathedral Church, Monreale
The Villa Romana, Piazza Armarina

Collectively, all these places we shall visit, are listed as World Heritage Sites

The Workshop: The days will run as usual, with teaching in the mornings, including a talk and any guidance you need. Some mornings and afternoons will be taken up with visits together, but we have not finalised the itinerary as we send this out to you.

Sicily is world famous for its food, being a richly abundant Mediterranean island, and we can look forward to the most delicious menus and wines.

Cost: 11 days, 10 nights mosaic course including accommodation and breakfast.
Early Bird Special (register before June 1) = € 2,500 (Euros)/ £1,756/$2,652
After June 1, workshop registration cost = €2,800 (Euros)/£1,968   /$2,971 (cost conversions will likely vary based upon the actual currency values at the time you purchase).
A deposit of €500.00 (non refundable) to be paid on booking.
This price is based on taking a single room.
Please note that the airfare is not included as part of the course price.

Suggested Flights:

The best option is to fly to Palermo. British Airways and Easyjet both have routes to Palermo. The flight schedules are not yet advertised for October/November 2018. We shall advise you of these as soon as we have notification, so that everyone may try to arrange flights that coincide with most of the group.
We then take a minibus from Palermo Airport to the city which takes about 1hr30 minutes.

If you wish to reserve a place, please let me know as numbers will be restricted due to the size of the studio space.

I’d really like to make this one.  2018 has got to be better than 2017.  I’ll be coming from farther away as I live in Cupertino, CA now.  But I’m pretty sure I can do British Airways.  I can always fly to London, spend night with friends or at airport, then fly to Sicily with you all.  Haven’t heard a word from Mary Ann in 2 years.  Sent her a Christmas card which told her about David’s death but never heard a word.  Hope you all are doing well.
    Cheers, Lesley

Great to see that Lesley is considering attending. Wish I could but still have an elderly Wrinkle to look out for! Can’t believe it will be 8 years ago since the last Sicily workshop. Denise in Australia
