Barcelona, Spain 2017

with Martin Cheek and Andrew Higgins

11-Days:  NOV 1-11, 2017

Course Preview

As many of you will know, for many years Martin Cheek and Andrew Higgins have been organising a special annual mosaic masterclass and tour abroad. Previous years have included Venice, Greece, Ravenna, Sicily and Istanbul. This year, by popular demand Martin and Andrew will be arranging a mosaic course in the exciting Catalan city of Barcelona in Spain.

The venue for this year is a ceramic studio, Veulasola, in the wonderful streets of the La Ribera area of the city, known for it’s mix of medieval buildings, museums and streets lined with bars and cafes. This is a district a short distance from the main tourist areas of the Barri Gotic and the famous La Rambla, so we can experience more of the character of the city. It is also a place where many artists have set up their studios – including the one we will be using. Have a look at them here https://m.facebook.com/Vuelasola

The course, as always, is both a creative and relaxing holiday experience. Martin and Andrew will teach for 3½ hours daily. There is a lot of opportunity for one to one tuition. Another great feature about this course is meeting your fellow course participants from all over the world.

The hotel we have found is about an 8 minute walk from the studio. We have chosen Hotel Santa Marta, which is on a quiet street, away from any bustle http://www.hotelsantamartabcn.com/en/

We will also have a guided tour of some of the great things to see in Barcelona. We will gather in the Hotel foyer where we will meet our guide, Jose Luis, on our expedition days. We will be visiting the following sites:

Segrada Familia
Parc Guell
Palau de la Musica Catalana

Catedral de Barcelona.

There are numerous museums too, which we will no doubt be very keen to visit, including the Museu of Chocolate and Museu Picasso (in no particular order!)

As for the Catalan food, in this great culinary city, we will be lunching everyday at the Bar Joan, right in the Mercat de Santa Caterina (one of the two main markets in Barcelona)

The days will run as usual, with teaching in the mornings, including a talk and any guidance you need. Some mornings and afternoons will be taken up with visits together, but we have not finalised the itinerary with our guide as we send this out to you.
